Answer: The width can be either 21 or 22.5 inch. You can do forward dips. The Pull Up bar has bar end extension so it can fit a 36 inch wide door. We do not recommend upside down rows. The doorway pull up bar will last for years and years. Lots of use can possibly cause some discoloration around the door frame where contact is made but no major damage. For everything you are wanting to use it for you might want to consider a long term solution like a wall mounted or ceiling mounted pull up bar.
